Sent on behalf of Carla Gregor:

I am writing to provide you with a second update on the search for a newly created position – the Executive Vice President of Medical, Academic Affairs and Quality.

What is the role?

In Update #1, you will recall that this position reports to Carl Roy, President & CEO of PHSA. This position will bring a strong clinical voice to the executive table, lead the establishment of an integrated medical governance structure, and represent PHSA interests with the Ministry of Health and external partners on matters related to medical affairs, academics and research, and quality. Functions currently imbedded in PHSA’s quality program will be the responsibility of this role, along with research administration and practice education. The successful candidate for this role will have a unique opportunity to improve healthcare in BC for the populations served directly by PHSA and in the capacity of PHSA’s broader provincial mandate by working collaboratively with external partners to constantly improve the health system.

How is the recruitment unfolding?

Harry Parslow (hparslow@caldwellpartners.com) from the search firm of Caldwell Partners is leading the search with support from Martha Papsin (mpapsin@caldwellpartners.com), and Carla Gregor (carla.gregor@phsa.ca).  The Search Panel has been created. Members of the Search Panel were named in Update #1. The Search Panel has met on three occasions and reviewed the résumés of a number of applicants. From this list of applicants, the Panel moved two candidates forward to the interview stage. Interviews took place March 28. The Interview Panel (eight members of the Search Committee) made the decision to move one of the two candidates forward to the next stage of the process. This stage will involve the “preferred candidate” meeting with a larger number of people within PHSA and, in particular, within BC Cancer, C&W, BCMHSUS, and BCCDC. This will enable a select number of individuals outside the Search Panel to provide input into the selection decision. I am attempting to schedule these additional sessions in April in the interests of moving this process forward as quickly as possible. All of the feedback from the broader stakeholder consultation will be provided to the Search Committee who will determine next steps.

How can I get more information?

We will be providing regular updates as the search process unfolds. However, if you have additional questions about the search process, please contact me at Carla.gregor@phsa or reach out to one of your colleagues on the Search Panel.

Carl Gregor

Co-Chair, Search Panel
